I recently stumbled across, in my garage, an older model Whistler detector, a Model 1540. I don’t need the "cutting edge" technology in radar detection equipment, yet I wonder if this unit still provide a modicum of protection…I know the 1540, e.g., has X, K, Ka and laser/VG2 capability but I know it’s close to 10 yrs old. Should I feel comfortable using this older detector? Thnx

i got a "speeding ticket" by going 50 on the street. i know i wasn’t going 50 so after showing insurance and stuff i asked the cop to show me the radar gun. he said ok but never did. i want to fight this ticket but i don’t think i will win because its his word against mine. but i heard that they cant give you a ticket using the radar gun unless there is a sign posted somewhere saying radar enforced or something. Is that true? I always see the cops in motorcycles on that street all the time and ive never seen a sign. and by the way this is in california.

I’ve seen most of the questions answered with either "you still get clocked" or "they cant scan you". the other day i saw one of those radar boxes, the ones that display your speed on a digital l.e.d billboard. they basically say to me "our police force doesn’t have the resources to put an officer here, so we are gunna put this box thing here to make you feel watched". I (having a ninja 636) decided to test it. from about 100 feet away, i gunned it. the display flickered back and forth from random numbers like "31" to 47". when i was about ten feet away, it turned red and angrily flashed "93". does this mean that i can evade, or even confuse/disorient the accuracy of police radar using my small vehicle size and acceleration?

I want to invest in a radar detector (legal in Texas). Everyone told me to get the Valentine One, how is it possible that after so many years? The Valentine One is STILL apparently the "best" radar detector on the market? Why can’t the competitors make a radar that is better than Valentine One?
