I will be a Sr. in high school this yeah and have driven my 97 4Runner for about a year and a half. It has over 233,000 miles on it but so far, the only thing i’ve had to replace are the U-joints. I recently decided to drive this baby until she dies on me. So, with some of my summer job earnings (i don’t work during the school year), I bot some really nice Yokohama Gilander A/T 265- 70- 15’s at 150 bucks a pop. Needles to say, it hurt my bank account pretty bad but these tiers were really my only option in this size (stock on the 4Runner is 223- 75- 15’s so the bigger tiers look really good and big enough to fill up the wheel well). Therefore, I’m looking for ways to make this rig last as long as possible. i will most likely perches a small motorcycle, like a 250 ninja at the end of the summer next year, to stretch the life of my 4Runner a little bit. even then, this thing has a lot of miles on it and even though these vehicles are known for lasting forever, i want to do everything i can to stretch the life as much as possible. oh, it’s pretty much the base model. a 4×2 without SR5 and it has a 2.7L 4 cil. I drive pretty fast (average of 50- 60) and sometimes 80 on I-40 when i’m late for work or school( i have a radar detector) but i am aware of my revs and usually, on take off let it switch into second around 2500 or 3000 if the situation calls for it. I maybe floor it once a week for a quick overtake of a care going the speed limit (I am a safe driver even if i do push the limits and i have never wrecked) oh, and i use high milage non- synthetic oil but I was thinking of switching to synthetic if yall think its worth the extra cash. any ideas would be appreciated! thanks
oh, it’s a VIT 2.7L 4 Cil. if that makes any dif. I guess u could say in cold weather, it smokes significantly for the first 5 mins after starting but then it dwindles down to what i call a normal amount of CO for cold weather. it doesn’t smoke at all in the 60’s and higher. what’s the best way to keep this engine running good and maybe even reduce the cold weather CO?

I currently have a Whistler XTR 220 that was given to me by someone I dated. After only recently putting it back up in my car I realized that it was missing the remote control that originally came with it. It still works but it’s hard to reach on my window. So I have been considering looking at other ones. I did some looking online and apparently the brands such as Whistler, Cobra, etc. are really no comparison to the detectors made by brands such as Escort, Valentine, & Beltronics. After reading recommendations about the Escort Passport 8500 X50 I looked at it and was curious:
Does anyone actually own this radar detector?
What about the Valentine V1 or the Beltronics RX-65 Pro. If so, what can you tell me concerning the pros and cons of them? Were they worth the money?

Serious answers only, please. And do not waste my time about how I need to slow down.

I’m thinking of buying my dad a radar detector from a local Best Buy, Fry’s electronics, etc… My budget is around 0 and I don’t want to order online since Dad’s bday is this weekend — Can you give me any advice on which one to get?? I’ve got 3 I found that seem good, but i woudl love some opinions since I’ve nvr had one of these b4…

in response to one of the guy’s "answer" – Radars are illegal in Virginia & DC… I live in Indiana and we rarely travel to VA/DC . And one more thing – I live in the indianapolis, in area, so if that helps w/ the stores i could go look around it or somewhere you can suggest – that would be great

Looking for a good radar detector that we won’t have to replace every two years. We live in Massachussetts, so if there is an outlet near by, that would be an option. I had heard that Whistler was in Westford, Ma., but I’m not certain if I can purchase from the Mfr.

I just got a radar detector. It is a Whistler. I have read conflicting information in regard as to where to place it. Some say to place it high on the windshield and others say to place it on the dash board to make it able to detect lasers better. (Lasers are usually aimed at the front license plate area). Also, if i get pulled over (they are legal in my state), will the cop give me a ticket or something if its on? I have read that a lot of people said on their K1 systems they use the remote to shut it off if they get pulled over. Do you hide it even though it isnt illegal? Thanks!

At a light, my radar detector shows full x band. It only happens at this one light where there are cameras. I am not sure what they monitor, i think just the traffic to witness acidents. My friends valentine does the same thing. My detector is a beltronics. I am not sure why it does this and was wonderig if anyone knows/or has expereanced the same problem.

i don’t need all the fancy features im just looking for a reasonably inexpensive radar detector but i set my mind on the xtr 575 but then was talked into the 690 for a few bucks more. now im hearing from reviews that the pro 78 is SO much better. is that all hype?

i would like to spend no more than 0 on a radar detector. but witch one is the best for the money.

I have a 0 limit on spending money on a radar detector. I have looked at the valentine one, escort 9500i, bel sti, and escort x50. Which one is the best out there. I live in the NH area.

I am looking at 2 different radar detectors, both priced equally. One is the Whistler XTR-190, the other a Cobra XRS 9330. I have been told that the Whistler has POP coverage where the Cobra doesn’t.. but I don’t know which one actually preforms better or if the POP even matters.

My boyfriend bday is coming up and he wants a radar detector for his truckk… I’m clueless when it comes to these things, but I know he wants voice alert… I found the Whistler XTR-330 at the radarbusters site and the Cobra XRS 757 at walmarts site.. Which is better? Or is there a better one that is less than 0 that I didnt find? I’m in college and the cheaper the better, but I dont wanna get him a hunk of junk either :] Thanks for your help!

I am in the market for a radar detector. I heard a lot of good things about the Valentine, and I knew Passport was in the business for some time. Which one is better in your opinion and why? I live in Dubai and I have no idea what frequency or signal or whatever they use for their detectors. How can I find out? Also, dumb question but do these only detect guns or do they also detect the radars that are on the side of the road that take pictures? That’s what they use 99% in Dubai. They are going to start using guns. I just want to know if they will work.

Are there any radar detectors that also include a laser jammer? I know most cops are starting to use laser instead of radar. It would be pointless for me to get a radar detector if I don’t get a laser jammer as well. But how does it work?…..Do you need to get both installed? And does anyone have any experience with theses? Do they detect radar / laser / speed traps things like that before you get to them or when its too late?

my dad had one years ago and i thought it would beep by how close the cop was, for example the closer the police car the more solid tone you would hear
