Which of these trips do Canadians like the best?
Trip #1: Fly to Whitehorse or Anchorage, AK. Then drive to Dawson City, Yukon Territory and take Dempster Highway to Inuvuk, crossing north of the arctic circle. Then wind back south into BC and visit Rupert Island.
Trip #2: Drive from New England into New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland. And spend a good amount of time in Peggy’s Cove, Cape Breton, and St. Johns and Labrador.
Trip #3: Start in Ottawa, drive north passing through Motogami, Quebec and then drive the high speed motorcycle route to James Bay (no speeding tickets on this road because radars don’t work, people often drive 200 km/h on this road but if you get stuck, it’s a bit nerve-wrecking.) From James Bay, attempt a canoe to Cape Dorset, Nunavut if possible to avoid exorbitant airfare.
Which is most fascinating to Canadians???
And if I do trip #1, then on the way back, take Northwest Airlines back to Detroit and do a one-day grand finale driving into Windsor and south to Point Pelee. So then I touch the Southernmost point in Canada in the same week as Arctic circle.
Note: These would all be for summer of course
Edit: Also these trips are not as expensive cost-wise as they sound.
Trip 1: There are flights to Anchorage going for 0 round-trip from East Coast USA. Then it’s a matter of several hundred miles driving, and stay at campgrounds. It’ll be expensive, but not exorbitant.
Trip 2: If I use my own car, which uses 5.9 Liters/100km, and drive it up from Maryland, it won’t be all that expensive. Again, staying at campgrounds. In USA gasoline currently is running at equivalent of 0.40 cents per Liter.
Trip 3: Again, use primitive lodging, my own car.
Lastly, if any of you Canadians want a free ride to any of these places, I’ll charge you nothing except what you buy on your own. Maybe now Canadians will like me.
I have to admit my favourite is Trip #1. I’m fascinated by kayaking at 3AM in breathtaking scenery with the arctic sun shining down on me. It sounds surreal
yup
2. The Maritimes are beautiful.
AS I have already seen most of what trip #2 and #3 have to offer, I think I would go with number one. Give me a chance to break in my dog sled.
And we already do like you. Eric.
You forgot option 4:
Fly into Vancouver and drive the Crowsnest Highway through to Lundbreck, AB. From Lundbreck go North on the Cowboy trial through Black Diamond and Longview and then fly out of Calgary back to where you’re going.
On this trip you’ll go through countless mountain trails, tons of lakes (through Nelson, Ainsworth, Creston, Cranbrook), and then off. The trip involves two free ferry rides across the Arrowhead lakes.
BUT since you didn’t mention that option…
I’d say Trip 2.
If only because I"ve never seen the East coast and I’ll really enjoy it. OH YEAH, I love seafood as well, and no one makes a better lobster than the folks in NS.
